Description:

Long before Booka Shade became one of the most successful international dance music acts of the last 10 years, Arno Kammermeier & Walter Merziger formed a new wave pop band in the early 90s, signed a record deal in 1992 and released 2 albums under the name Planet Claire. GALVANY STREET marks the return to their pop roots in collaboration with former Archive singer Craig Walker and a few additional guests like Urdur (GusGus), Australian Yates and Daniel Spencer from London. “As a singer it’s a real pleasure to work with Booka Shade as the music they presented to me was so rich and full of melody. The rhythms and melody are always top level and make the job of writing toplines and lyrics a very enjoyable one. I really love the combination of all our influences – 80’s synth pop, 90’s Manchester and right up to more current stuff like The Weeknd – it’s all in there and it makes for a very interesting sound.” (Craig Walker) Mark Plati, known for his production and mixing with David Bowie, The Cure, Prince and many others worked on “Digging A Hole”, “Eyes Open” and “All Falls Down”. Fritz Hilpert, mix engineer and electronic musician, a friend of Booka Shade, got involved with the final mix for “All Falls Down”.

Description:

Johnny Jewel has announced a new album. It’s called Windswept and it’s out May 10 via his Italians Do It Better label. The 14-track collection is made up of unreleased material, including music that will be in the upcoming third season of “Twin Peaks.” There are also collaborations with Glass Candy, Symmetry, and Heaven, as well as songs by Chromatics (“Blue Moon” from Jewel’s Lost River soundtrack) and Desire. Jewel has also shared the title track, along with a video by Chromatics. Watch that below; scroll down for the Windswept artwork and tracklist.

In 2016, Johnny Jewel released his soundtrack for the Belgian film Home. Chromatics’ last record, the excellent Kill for Love, came out in 2012. Since December 2014, they’ve teased its follow-up, Dear Tommy. Yesterday, Jewel’s manager, Alexis Rivera, explained the delay. “Christmas day 2015, Johnny almost died in Hawaii,” according to Rivera. “When he came back home to California he destroyed all copies of Tommy. 15K CDs & 10K vinyl in the Italians warehouse in Glendale, all gone.” The LP has since been re-recorded, and apparently, “we are getting closer to the release of the album.”

Description:

Like a lot of dance music producers, Berlin’s Ellen Allien has had her hands in just about every aspect of her field. Allien’s immersion into dance music began during an extended stay in London, at the height of the acid house phenomenon. Shortly after returning home she got into DJ’ing, and by 1993 she had spun at Fischlabor, Tresor, and a number of other significant clubs. Throughout the remainder of the ’90s, she hosted programs on Berlin’s Kiss FM, worked at the Delirium record shop, operated a label called Braincandy, and threw a number of parties called BPitch Control, which led to her label of the same name. She eventually became a noted producer; in addition to a slew of 12″ releases, she issued a series of full-lengths — Stadtkind (2001), Berlinette (2003), Thrills (2005), Orchestra of Bubbles (2006, with Apparat), SOOL (2008), and Dust (2010), along with the mix albums Weiss Mix (2002), My Parade (2004), Fabric 34 (2007), Boogybytes, Vol. 4 (2008), and Watergate 05 (2010). After the release of Dust RMX in 2011, Allien expanded the music she’d been commissioned to write for a dance production staged at Paris’ Pompidou Centre into 2013’s free-flowing album LISm. She continued releasing at least two singles per year, leading up to the release of 2017’s warmly nostalgic full-length Nost. Throughout the years, the sound of Allien’s productions took on subtle changes, ingested new inspirations, and gravitated toward full-blown songs while remaining pared down all along. ~ Andy Kellman
